NHLA statement on Governor's proposed budget

Posted Feb 11, 2021

Statement of Sarah Mattson Dustin, Executive Director of New Hampshire Legal Assistance, on the Governor’s proposed budget

“I’d like to thank Governor Sununu for proposing a budget that includes level funding for civil legal aid. This funding ensures that New Hampshire Legal Assistance (NHLA) can continue to support people who most need an advocate to help them protect their basic human needs. NHLA works alongside thousands of Granite Staters each year. By helping veterans, older adults, and people with disabilities access the federal benefits for which they are qualified; by ensuring that domestic violence survivors have legal protections to keep them safe; and by preventing homelessness, NHLA prevents more costly crises and generates significant positive economic activity in our state. During these challenging times, NHLA will continue to be on the front lines of the economic crisis response effort for individuals and families in every corner of New Hampshire. I applaud the Governor for recognizing the importance of civil legal aid in New Hampshire’s comprehensive pandemic response.”
