NHLA is a non-profit New Hampshire corporation and has been recognized since 1971 as a charitable tax-exempt organization by the Internal Revenue Service. NHLA undergoes an annual audit by an independent auditor, and because we receive federal grants, our audit is conducted pursuant to the additional requirements of Circular A-133. Our most recent audit and our IRS Form 990 (tax-exempt organization tax return) are posted below. NHLA also files annual reports with the Charitable Trust Division of the NH Attorney General's Office.
NHLA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. The Board meets quarterly and is responsible for setting NHLA's budget, hiring and annually evaluating the executive director, and determining overall policy for the organization. The Board operates through an active committee system, led by the Executive Committee (consisting of the Board's four officers), which meets monthly with the executive director and other NHLA staff to set policy and deal with emerging issues. The Finance and Long-Range Planning Committee oversees development of our annual budget and long-term financial projections and goals.
