Fair Housing training for New Hampshire elder advocates

New Hampshire Legal Assistance, New Hampshire Seniors Count and New Hampshire Housing, with funding from the Mary Gale Foundation, will present a free training for elders services advocates about legal tools to keep elders in safe, affordable housing. 

Advocates will be able to learn about 

  • Fair housing laws that protect older adults
  • How to request a "reasonable accommodation" and a "reasonable modification"
  • What inquires about a senior's abilities to live independently are illegal
  • Laws about support animals and pet policies
  • How to seek local welfare assistance

The training is scheduled for Oct. 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and will be held at New Hampshire Housing - East Wing Meeting Area, 32 Constitution Drive in Bedford.

DIRECTIONS

From Manchester Airport: Follow the airport signs directing you towards I-293. The airport exit will lead you to a traffic light at an intersection. Turn right at the light (this is Brown Ave.) and continue until you see the I-293/Rt. 101 overpass. Stay in the left lane and enter the expressway after crossing under the overpass. Immediately merge into the middle lane to follow Rte. 101 West (the right two lanes split off for I-293 just after you get off the entrance ramp). Do not take any exits. After a few miles Rt. 101 will end at a traffic light which is the intersection of Rt. 101 and Rt. 114. Take a left at the light onto Rt. 101 West, then take a left at the first light. This is Constitution Drive (you will see the Bedford Police/Fire complex on the left as you approach the traffic light). Follow Constitution Drive around until you reach New Hampshire Housing (there is a sign). It is on the left side of the street and is a brick building. 

From the Seacoast/Maine: Take I-95 South to Rt. 101 West. Follow Rt.101 to Manchester. At this point, Rt. 101 briefly connects with I-93 South. Once on I-93, stay to the right and take the right split (I-293/Rt. 101 west) where I-93 splits from I-293/Rt. 101. Continue following signs for Rt. 101 West. After crossing over the Merrimack River, I-293 will split off from Rt. 101 West. Stay left and continue following Route 101. A mile or two further on Rt. 101 puts you at a traffic light which is the intersection of Rt. 101 and Rt. 114. Take a left at the light onto Rt. 101 West, then take a left at the first light. This is Constitution Drive (you will see the Bedford Police/Fire complex on the left as you approach the traffic light). Follow Constitution Drive around until you reach New Hampshire Housing (there is a sign). It is on the left side of the street and is a brick building. 

From the South/Massachusetts: Take Rt. 3 north out of Massachusetts. Continue on Rt. 3 past Nashua and Merrimack (it becomes Everett Turnpike). When you are almost to Manchester, you will hit a toll plaza ($1.00). Shortly after the toll plaza you will see two exits for I-293/Rt.101. Take the second exit (Rt. 101 West). After about 1/2 mile, Rt. 101 will drop to two lanes. Continue on Rt. 101 West until you come to a traffic light (this is the intersection of Rt. 101 and Rt.114). Take a left at the light onto Rt. 101 West, then take a left at the first light. This is Constitution Drive (you will see the Bedford Police/Fire complex on the left as you approach the traffic light). Follow Constitution Drive around until you reach New Hampshire Housing (there is a sign). It is on the left side of the street and is a brick building.  

From the North: Take I-93 South. Just past the toll plaza on I-93, you will see a split between I-93 and I-293.Take I-293 at the split (it's the left split). Follow I-293 down through Manchester to the Exit for Rt. 101/I-293 (there will be a shopping center on the right). Stay to the right on the exit ramp (it splits) and merge onto Rt. 101W. After a mile or so you will get to a traffic light. This is the intersection of Rt. 101 and Rt. 114. Take a left at this light (to follow Rt. 101 West) then take a left at the first light. This is Constitution Drive (you will see the Bedford Police/Fire complex on the left as you approach the traffic light). Follow Constitution Drive around until you reach New Hampshire Housing (there is a sign). It is on the left side of the street and is a brick building. 

From the West/Keene/Peterborough: Take Route 101 East. Once you reach Bedford, you will pass through a shopping district. Shortly after the shopping district, you will pass the Bedford Village Inn on your left (large yellow colonial building on a small hill). Just past the Inn, you will come to a traffic light. Turn right at the light. This is Constitution Drive. Follow Constitution Drive around until you reach New Hampshire Housing (there is a sign). It is on the left side of the street and is a brick building.Directions to the Bedford Office East Wing Meeting AreaFrom the driveway at 32 Constitution Drive take an immediate right into the parking lot (versus turning left to reach the Main Entrance). Plenty of parking is available. You will see a doorway at the end of a short, slightly wooded paved sidewalk. Use this door to enter the meeting area; a staff member will be available to greet you and direct you to the appropriate conference room.
