EMPLOYMENT

INTERNS - Internship Program Interns assist attorneys and paralegals with every level of case preparation including interviewing clients, investigating cases, taking depositions, conducting legal research and drafting pleadings. Interns are encouraged to participate in administrative hearings and second year students who meet NH student practice qualifications may represent clients in District Court proceedings. Because NHLA hires a small number of interns each year, interns have the opportunity to work on a wide array of cases. NHLA`s legislative efforts afford interested interns the opportunity to conduct legislative tracking and analysis on key poverty issues before the state legislature. NHLA accepts applications from first and second year law students. Internships are unpaid, but many interns have successfully obtained funding from other sources. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Students are encouraged to apply for internships during the academic year as well. Please Submit a Cover Letter and Resume to: Intern Coordinator NH Legal Assistance 117 North State Street Concord, NH 03301 (603) 224-4107 ext. 2831 (603) 223-9794 (f) officemanager@nhla.org

Deferred Associates Program - Deferred Associates will represent clients in a variety of cases and forums including administrative and state court hearings. Associates will receive training and supervision from experienced attorneys. Associates also have the opportunity to provide research and writing and other support in appellate and federal class action cases. NHLA’s legislative efforts afford interested associates the opportunity to conduct legislative tracking and analysis on key poverty issues before the state legislature and state boards such as the public utilities commission. Admission to the New Hampshire Bar is not required. NHLA handles many administrative cases (such as unemployment insurance and disability appeals) which allow representation by advocates other than licensed attorneys. The New Hampshire and Massachusetts bar exams are scheduled to allow candidates to sit for both. Travel is required and associates are required to have reliable transportation. Interested deferred associates should submit a cover letter resume, writing sample and three references to: Ruthie Cartlidge NH Legal Assistance 154 High Street Portsmouth, NH 03801 (603) 431-7411 ext. 2501 (603) 431-8025 (f) rcartlidge@nhla.org
