Public Benefits

Advocates of the Benefits Project help individuals obtain the assistance they need to stabilize their income and move toward self-sufficiency. Advocates help persons with disabilities obtain Social Security, SSI, and APTD benefits and access to health care through Medicare and Medicaid. The Project also works for improvements in the APTD/Medicaid system.

Advocates assist individuals and families with eligibility issues for unemployment compensation, state assistance programs such as food stamps, Medicaid and cash benefits for families, and municipal welfare programs.

NHLA defends a musician's right to unemployment compensation to the N.H. Supreme Court

May 8, 2014: Norman Coulumbe worked for 30 years as a musician at Indianhead Resort in New Hampshire's North Country. When he was laid off, he was relieved when the Unemployment Office told him he was eligible for benefits.

Administrative Law Judge waives $116,000 overpayment of disability benefits
