NHLA seeks attorney leadership for Concord branch office

NHLA is seeking an attorney to serve as managing attorney of the Concord branch office. 

Recognized nationally for our achievements, NHLA has a proud history of aggressive, creative advocacy for low-income and elderly clients in federal and state courts, as well as in legislative and administrative forums. Because NHLA does not receive federal Legal Services Corporation (LSC) funding, we are not subject to LSC’s restrictions on lobbying, class action litigation or welfare reform work. NHLA’s resources are primarily focused on housing, health, income benefits, elder law, domestic violence, and public utilities. NHLA operates five branch law offices and a number of statewide projects. 

The branch office managing attorneys supervise locally-based NHLA advocates and support staff in theirrepresentation of low-income and elderly clients in civil legal cases.  Managing attorneys litigate cases before courtsand administrative agencies and sometimes participate in legislative or administrative advocacy. This person may potentiallyserve also as project director for NHLA’s public benefits practice.  

Position Qualifications: New Hampshire license or willingness to take the next scheduled bar examination, or eligibility for admission on motion. Strong oral and written communication skills and attention to detail; management skills including experience and ability supervising legal work; communications skills including commitment and ability to work with diverse groups of people, organizations, systems and multiple stakeholders; familiarity with public benefits available to low-income individuals; a team player who can also work independently and demonstrate initiative.  Preference is given to those demonstrating a commitment to civil rights, economic justice, and working with low-income people.

Salary/Benefits: Salary DOE. Excellent benefits, including medical and dental insurance, retirement plan, and law school loan assistance.

NHLA has offices in Berlin, Claremont, Manchester, Concord, and Portsmouth. This particular staff position will be based in Concord and will involve travel throughout the State to respond to client needs.
